Trust tribute to Johnny Haynes

On the twentieth anniversary of his sad passing, the Fulham Supporters’ Trust would like to pay tribute to the memory of Fulham’s finest footballer, Johnny Haynes.
The former Fulham and England captain, who spent his entire domestic career at Craven Cottage, was the first footballer to earn more than £100 a week. He remains Fulham’s leading first-team appearance maker and was a key part of various efforts to save London’s oldest professional football club after he had finished playing, including supporting the campaign to take Fulham Back to the Cottage permanently.
It is impossible to summarise Johnny’s contribution to our football club in a few paragraphs but the Trust are proud that his likeness is captured in the statue that stands on Stevenage Road and one of the most historic stands in English football carries his name. Following a fitting suggestion from our members, the Trust trophy awarded to the Fulham academy player of the year is named in his honour.
As our founding chair Tom Greatrex said immediately after Johnny passed away,
“His dedication, skill, professionalism, grace and charm – both in his playing days and in retirement – serve as a poignant reminder to many of today’s footballers about what true greatness really means.”
No Fulham fan will ever forget the magnificence of the Maestro: Johnny Haynes.
