The Fulham Supporters’ Trust were delighted to present eighteen year-old centre back Eddy Nsasi with the Johnny Haynes Trophy on Friday night before Fulham’s under-21s beat West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at Motspur Park.

Eighteen year-old Nsasi was voted the winner of the prestigious award by his team-mates and academy coaches after an incredible season that saw him star in Hayden Mullins’ under-21 side whilst also appearing for the under-18s. The classy centre back, who turned professional last November, joined the Fulham academy aged eigh, and played 28 times for the under-21s last term – becoming a regular fixture in one of the most diligent defences in the PL2.
Nsasi is the eighth winner of the trophy, which was the brainchild of Trust member Peter Grinham and named in honour of Fulham’s finest ever footballer Johnny Haynes, succeeding Tyrese Francois, Jay Stansfield, Fabio Carvalho, Sonny Hilton, Matt Dibley-Dias and Devan Tanton.
After being presented with the trophy by Trust chair Simon Duke, the delighted defender said:
“I know the history behind this trophy and the players who have won it in the past – and to be put alongside them is a proud accomplishment for me. I have to thank my family, my teammates and the coaches for pushing me in training every day.
I’ll be honest, I never expected to win this trophy because I wasn’t expected to play for the Under-21s last season. Hayden put me in the side and I feel I stepped up well. I feel like I’ve improved massively throughout my years at this club – and to be holding this trophy is crazy for me.”
Duke added: “Eddy’s emergence into the Fulham under-21s set up last term was excellent. He took his opportunity when injuries gave him a chance to play well above his age group and has gone from strength to strength. It was a pleasure to be able to present him with the Johnny Haynes Trophy and, like every Fulham fan, I look forward to seeing Eddy shine this season and, should if he continue his impressive development, step into Marco Silva’s superb side just as seamlessly in the years ahead.”
