Welcome to the Fulham Supporters’ Trust Colour Coded Fixture List for 2026/27, which tries to help Fulham fans decide when it is safe to buy tickets or travel for matches without the risk of them changing.

What causes fixture changes?
Each season supporters are presented with an ever more complex fixture list which seems to change at short notice, throwing the best laid plans awry. What causes all these changes?
Selection for domestic broadcast
This season is second of a four year Premier League broadcast deal with Sky Sports and TNT Sports. From 2025/26 onwards, any game moved from the “protected” Saturday 3pm timeslot for any reason, e.g. a prior European fixture, will be televised, producing a very large number of TV games in the UK. Many of these games will be played on Sundays at 2pm, unless selected for more “premium” TV slots.
The following table lists the typical weekend slots used by the broadcasters to show Premier League games, based on the package of games they have agreed to buy. This is useful to know when a broadcast announcement has been made but slots are still available and therefore at risk of being filled later. It’s worth noting though that even these slots are subject to change sometimes when particularly attractive games need to be squeezed into a tight schedule, often late in the season.

It has often been difficult to determine when the announcement of fixture moves will take place. For a few years now the Premier League and broadcasters have published a timetable of fixture change announcements for each match week (MW), but it should be noted that they are not always successful in meeting these dates. The dates for this season are:

It is important to note that when the Premier League issues broadcast selection updates, they sometime include an asterisk to indicate a dependency on (usually) a European competition draw. However games which are not selected for TV, and therefore left in the Saturday 3pm slot, but which still have a European depedency are not caveated in the same way. An early example of this is our away game at Liverpool, which is listed in the Aug / Sep broadcast announcement as a Saturday 3pm match but until the draw is made for the Champions League group stages is still vulnerable to a move.
Midweek fixture rounds
The agreement between the Premier League and the broadcasters is for 33 weekend fixture rounds and 5 midweek rounds. All fixtures in the midweek rounds will be televised live and may be spread out through the week with games generally played from Tuesday through to Thursday and with kick off times often staggered.
The midweek rounds are in weeks commencing:
- Mon 30 Nov – Spurs (away)
- Mon 28 Dec – Arsenal (home)
- Mon 4 Jan – Spurs (home)
- Mon 8 Feb – Forest (home)
- Mon 1 Mar – Brighton (away)
Domestic cup clashes
Similarly to last season, rounds 3 to 6 of the FA Cup are protected from clashes with the Premier League, so the earliest an FA Cup game can cause a Premier League fixture move is the semi-final, which is the day we play Brentford away (24 Apr).
The League (Carabao) Cup doesn’t tend to interfere with Premier League fixtures as it is played in midweek, with the exception of the final. However rounds 3 and 5 do clash with certain European game weeks, which could have an impact depending on the draw. Round 3, in particular, is complicated enough that it has been split across two midweeks to cater for the possible European clashes. If we make it to this round then the fixture week will depend on the opponents and whether or not they are in European competition.
European competition clashes
Although Fulham didn’t qualify for European competition, nine Premier League teams did and the scheduling of these fixtures often has an impact on the following (and occasionally preceding) league games. This is particularly the case with teams competing in the Europa League and Europa Conference League who generally play on Thursdays; any Premier League fixtures following a Thursday European game will be moved at least to the Sunday (and now televised) to allow for recovery time. Similarly teams who play away in the Champions League on a Wednesday can’t have their following league game moved to a Friday or early Saturday slot by the TV companies, which means that any domestic broadcast will be in the late Saturday slot or on Sunday or Monday.
A quick glance at the fixture list shows that before the end of January when the European groups stages finish, we have two games that follow our opponents midweek European games and two that precede them. However, none follow a Europa or Conference League game (which are played on Thursdays) leaving the biggest early question mark as Liverpool away, which follows the only Champions League game week that could be played on a Thursday.
- 12 Sep – Liverpool (away) follows the first Champions League match week, which exceptionally could be on a Thursday, forcing a move to Sunday or Monday
- 31 Oct – Aston Villa (away) preceeds Champions League so can’t be Mon
- 21 Nov – Man City (away) preceeds Champions League so can’t be Mon
- 23 Jan – Aston Villa (home) is sandwiched between two Champions League game weeks
After the group stages, much depends on which teams qualify, but ones to keep an eye on are Arsenal (away), Palace (away) and Liverpool (home).
The final complexity surrounding European fixtures occurs when the scheduling of a Champions League game by UEFA, often on a Tuesday, causes a domestic broadcaster to have to relinquish a previously selected Sunday or Monday slot for that team or even delay match selection. Situations have occurred in the past where this caused knock-ons to the games the domestic broadcaster had already chosen and consequent unexpected late notice fixture moves. These conditional picks are just about the hardest moves to track and predict as they can mean games not involving any teams competing in Europe are moved to accommodate the revised broadcast schedule.

Christmas matches
This season there is a full schedule on Boxing Day, 30 Dec and 2 Jan. In practice, these will end up spread out over the Christmas period with a minimum recovery gap for each team of 60 hours.
There will be no games on Christmas Eve.
How to read the colour coded fixture list
To the best of our ability we will monitor all of the move risks listed above, mark them in the Colour Coded Fixture List and classify each game as either green (no longer likely to change), amber (could still change) or red (has changed or will have to change). The specific colours have been selected to support use by colour blind readers, but symbols on the left of the table also indicate this status.
Other key points in the calendar, such as breaks and cup dates, are shown for information and the fixture list also indicates the obvious clashes and shows the expected dates of broadcast announcements, albeit these can often be quite fluid.
This definitely isn’t an exact science, and relies heavily on assessing limited information from the Premier League and the domestic broadcasters, coupled with a detailed look at how TV slots have been filled with games from various leagues. We also have to keep an eye on activities at the other teams in the borough. We’ll keep updating as the season progresses.
